Webhosting - What is a Web Server & How Do You Find The Right One?

By Ricardo Daryans

What is a web server? How does it relate to your business exactly? It is best to think of a web server as supply and demand. Your website being the thing in demand, and your customers being those demanding it . The web server will search the URL to find the page being requested and present the customers with the page in question. It sounds incredibly simple, but choosing the right server type, whether you are going to go with alojamiento web or hospedaje web.

A Virtual Private Server is a good idea, especially for the bigger businesses. It would be in your best interest to have some experience of course, especially considering the vast number of settings available. If you can learn however then you might just be able to handle a virtual private server. While a virtual private server can be a bit more expensive at more than 100 dollars per month, it works independently from the other accounts on the server. You can have up to 50 websites, and if you're concerned about security, the VPS is the way to go.

Virtual hosting is another server type, and it is shared with several other users. You will not need to worry about the technical details so long as you have a decent web host. You will however run into some problems changing settings. For example you will need to contact the administrator every single time you want to make a change to the server. In addition to that, you will only be allowed one website, and if you want a second, you will need an entirely different account. Luckily, you will only need to pay twenty to fifty dollars per month. if you are a small business and do not want to worry about the technical side of the business, Virtual Hosting is your option.

You also have to think about web server software. One type is Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). It only works with NT-based server systems, as NT is a Microsoft product. It has crash protection and plenty of support, so you don't have to worry about viruses. Also, if you use NT, you get IIS free with it.

Apache is the other choice, and it is the most popular. While it does not have a ton of support, it is free, and it is extremely easy to set up. IIS is still the safe choice, but Apache definitely has more features.

We have only given you a few of the available options, but this is an excellent start. Do a bit of your own research and you will have a better idea of what is available. Before you know it, you will be able to choose the best host and have the best website for your company.
